Interview a Gardener: Guide for the Public
Stories about gardens can tell us about where we’ve been and where we’re going. Community of Gardens preserves stories sharing wisdom, life experiences, and community history from a gardener’s point of view.
Do you have a friend, neighbor, or family member with a garden story to share? This guide will walk you through how to conduct an oral history with a gardener and share your interview online with the Smithsonian Gardens Community of Gardens digital archive.
Help us Preserve Garden History!
- Conduct an interview with a gardener in your family or community.
- Assemble the interview, images, and other media.
- Submit the story using our contribution form or email the materials to firstname.lastname@example.org so that your story can be added to the Community of Gardens digital archive.
These steps represent optional guidelines, not requirements, for submitting a garden story to Community of Gardens.
Note: This guide is aimed at the general public. If you are an educator or student, you can find our Smithsonian Gardens Green Ambassador Challenge interview lesson plan here.
